I wonder if I have one of those as well. I've never lost a single sock, isn't he starving?
The use of light and shadows make him seem three dimensional, and even the neon green of the letters seem appropriate. They remind me of phosphorescent letters in kids' rooms. And after all, the monster probably steals at night.
It might have worked better with mismatched socks, though, considering what the text says... But those are very common socks, so it still works.
